foam tape Bond strength

Foam tape use knowledge

Q: What is the performance of the tape in the high temperature and low temperature environment will change? Foam tape A: When the temperature increases, the glue and foam will become soft, the bond strength will be reduced, but better paste. When the temperature decreases, the tape will harden, the bond strength will rise but the patch will be worse. Tape performance will return to its original value as the temperature returns to normal.

Q: After the parts are pasted, how to remove the parts? Foam tape A: Generally speaking, this is very difficult, unless it is posted within a short time. Before removing, you need to moisten the parts soften the plastic surface, soften the peel or cut the foam with a knife or other tools. The residue of the gum and foam can be easily removed with a 3M-specific cleaning agent or other solvent.

Q: If the tape is only a very light force when the pressure can be lifted and then re-paste. But if all the compaction, it is difficult to peel off, glue may be stained, need to re-tape. If the parts have been posted for a long time, it is harder to tear off, usually replacing the whole part.

Q: How long will it take to remove the release paper before the adhesive tape? Foam tape A: The air has little effect on the glue, but the dust in the air will stain the surface of the glue, thereby reducing the tape's sex. So the glue in the air exposure time as short as possible. We recommend sticking the tape immediately after removing the release paper. Substrate surface treatment (Primer): mainly through technical means to deal with the substrate surface, increase the adhesive layer and the substrate surface adhesion. Common technical means have a primer treatment (coated with a layer of polymer on the surface of the substrate) and corona or plasma treatment. Substrate surface treatment is critical for whether the tape can be left without removal.

Adhesive (Adhesive): commonly known as glue, is the core of the tape. Adhesive types are mainly natural rubber, synthetic rubber, acrylic, etc., special types of adhesives are less used, such as silica gel and EVA (ethylene - vinyl acetate) and so on. According to the different surface materials and application requirements, need to use a specific adhesive tape.

Release Liner: is the outermost part of the double-sided tape, the main purpose is to protect the adhesive, to prevent the adhesive inadvertently with the contact with the object or with other parts of the tape together. In the use of double-sided tape and no substrate tape, the need to peel off the release paper, exposing the adhesive layer, to achieve double-sided bonding.

The above three types of tape are based on the basic categories of structure. We also use the type of substrate to name tapes such as foam tape, cloth tape, paper tape, or adhesive to distinguish tape, such as acrylic foam tape. In addition, if classified according to use, tape can be divided into daily use, industrial and medical tape three categories. In these three categories, there are more subtle use can be used to distinguish between tape, such as non-slip tape, masking tape, surface protection tape and so on.
